Alacron's founder and CEO, Dr. Joseph Sgro

Joseph A. Sgro is a mathematician, neurologist and a pioneer in the field of machine vision, framegrabbers (or frame grabbers), high speed smart cameras, vision processors, and computer vision.  Prior to co-founding Alacron, Inc., a framegrabber development and manufacturing company, Sgro was first an academician in the field of advanced mathematics.  He received an AB Mathematics in 1970 from UCLA; an MA Mathematics in 1973 and a PhD Mathematics in 1975 from U. Wisconsin, where he studied logic model theory under H. Jerome Keisler.  After serving as an instructor and post doctoral fellow at Yale, and as a member of the Institute of Advanced Studies in Princeton, NJ, Sgro then returned to school as a student to study neurology, and received his MD Neurology in 1980 from U. of Miami School of Medicine.   

 While working as a neurologist, he became interested in the use of machine vision, specifically framegrabbers, during surgery.  After serving as an Associate in Neurology and then as an Assistant Professor of Neurology at The Medical College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University in NYC,  Sgro relocated to Richmond, VA. There he served first as an Associate Professor of Neurology, then as the Head of Neurophysiology and finally, as Chief of the Division of Clinical Neurophysiology at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond.
